Orange has forfeited its win over Santa Ana in a Golden West League football game last week because the Panthers used an ineligible player in the contest, Orange principal Dennis McCuistion said Wednesday night.

Orange and Santa Ana were undefeated going into the game. Orange’s record now is 5-1 overall and 0-1 in league. Santa Ana is 6-0 and 1-0.

A freshman who played in the Orange-Santa Ana freshman football game Thursday also played on special teams in the varsity game that evening. That is a violation of CIF-Southern Section football rule 1923, which states “No student shall participate in more than one level of competition in the same sport in the same day.”

“We self-reported this to the CIF-Southern Section office on Friday as soon as we found out about it,” said McCuistion, who sent a letter notifying CIF-SS of the forfeit on Wednesday.
