BRETHREN CHRISTIAN WARRIORS

Coach: Pat McInally (fourth year, 20-13)

Last season’s record: 8-3 overall, 3-1 league

Scouting report: The Warriors, a playoff team in 2013, start the season with just four returning starters collectively on offense and defense. Coach Pat McInally, a former NFL All-Pro, said to compensate for the rawness, Brethren Christian will need to plug major holes left by the departure of a seasoned quarterback and pivotal playmakers. A proven offensive line, built on size and mobility, is a start. The offense, which will field several sophomores, also benefits from the return of receiver Guy Demazeliere, who McInally said has “off-the-chart strength” and could be the program’s first Division I recruit in nearly two decades. A nucleus centered on running back Andrew Assaf will help ease some of the inexperience at quarterback. “The way we lined up during spring ball, I would have thought if we played well, we’d be at 4-6,” McInally said. “Now with the people we have, I think we could have a winning record.” The Warriors face a much tougher schedule this season and must adjust on defense to the loss of Will Martin (17 sacks in 2013). McInally said Demazeliere, lining up at defensive end, could eclipse 20 sacks.
