Huntington Beach’s girls water polo team reached the finals of the America’s Finest City tournament Saturday night in Coronado but couldn’t stop the squad that gave everyone fits. Royal of Simi Valley, the reigning CIF-SS Div. 4 champ, beat the ninth-ranked Oilers, 14-7.

Huntington Beach advanced to the title game with a 12-5 victory against Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga in the semifinals and an 8-7 triumph against La Jolla in the quarterfinals.

Huntington Beach’s Marina Hyham was selected the top goalie of the tournament while Julia Rozolis-Hill was selected all-tournament.

Royal (14-5) finished seventh last weekend at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.

In another America’s Finest City game:

ML King 9, Rosary 8: The Royals fell in the ninth-place match.

In nonleague:

No. 2 Laguna Beach 7, No. 4 Corona del Mar 2: Freshman Sophie Leggett scored three goals and Bella Baldridge and Haley Evans each added two to lead the visiting Breakers (16-2). Heidi Ritner made 10 saves for CdM (9-5).

No. 6 El Toro 14, Montebello 4: Haley Hagerty scored four goals and Jessica Rodriguez had three assists to lead the host Chargers (12-6) in a Division 2 duel.

In the Segerstrom tournament:

The Bishop’s of La Jolla 17, Northwood 0: The Timberwolves fell in the finals to The Bishop’s (15-5).
