Dillon Brown pitched a four-hitter and struck out six as Foothill defeated Esperanza, 2-1, on Friday in a nonleague game.

Brown improved his record to 7-1, while the Knights, who won all three of their games this week, improved their record to 16-6.

Brown was matched in a duel with Esperanza starter Blake Schriever, who went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out six.

For Foothill, Cameron Dutcher went 1 for 3 (RBI, 2B), Evan Mickelson 1 for 3 (R, 2B) and Matthew O’Donoghue 1 for 3 (R, RBI, 2B).

In the Trinity League:

Orange Lutheran 2, St. John Bosco 0: Cole Spencer and Luke Mattson teamed up for a shutout that gave the Lancers a sweep of their three-game series with the Braves.

Spencer went four innings and allowed three hits. He struck out five. Mattson went the final three innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

It was Orange Lutheran’s eighth shutout of the season.

For Orange Lutheran, Brendan Avvetino went 2 for 3 (2 RBI) and Nathan Flores went 2 for 3 with one run.

Mater Dei 7, Servite 4: Josh Stepen went 3 for 4 with one RBI, Emilio Rosas and Blake Hunt each had two hits and Jonathan Schiffer (five innings, two hits) earned the win for the Monarchs (9-7, 2-1).  

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 6, Western 5: Senior Jared Velez provided the spark as the Fighting Irish (12-6, 2-0) rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Pioneers for the second time this week.

Velez went 1 for 2 with a triple, RBI and two runs. He also pitched and got the save.

Austin Criss and James Allen also drove in runs for Kennedy.

In the Sea View League:

Trabuco Hills 4, San Clemente 3: Jack Cornish got the win, and Ryan Kearney went 2 for 3 and Matt Wong had two RBI for the Mustangs (8-9, 3-2).

In the Orange Coast League:

Estancia 14, Saddleback 1: Trevor Brown drove in four runs, and Spencer Stern (five innings, two hits) earned the victory for the Eagles (13-7, 4-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Northwood 5, Corona del Mar 2: Kevin Yonamine shut out the Sea Kings the last four innings, and the Timberwolves (13-6, 3-4) rallied for the victory over the Sea Kings.

Dylan Brine (2 RBI, 2B), Sam Cachola (RBI) and Ely Stuart (2 for 3, RBI, 2B) led the way for Northwood’s comeback.
