Here are some of the highlights and the scoreboard from the CIF-SS baseball games played Monday.

Game of the night: No. 1 Huntington Beach vs. No. 3 Orange Lutheran

What a great way to start the first full week of the baseball season.

Two of the top three teams in the Register’s season-opening top 10 played Monday night at Hart Park in Orange, and the Lancers rallied behind the excellent pitching of junior left-hander Chris Burica to win their season opener, 5-3.

Burica allowed three hits and three earned runs, in addition to striking out seven and walking one. The Creighton commit did not allow a hit after the third inning.

The visiting Oilers (1-2) scored three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Senior outfielder Dominic Abbadessa, who had two hits, Ben McConnell and Logan Poulesen each drove in a run for Huntington Beach.

The Lancers got two runs back in the bottom of the third. Garrett Mitchell contributed an RBI triple.

Orange Lutheran took the lead with two more runs in the fourth agains Poulesen (0-1), who gave up three hits and three earned runs in four innings.

Junior Zach Busalacchi extended the Lancers’ lead to 5-3 with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning.

In other games:

Fountain Valley 1, Long Beach Poly 0: Travis Burleson lost a no-hitter with one out in the seventh inning, but finished with a one-hitter for the Barons (3-0) in the game at USC. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior struck out nine.

Justin Mazzone went 1 for 2 and Justin Yang was 2 for 3.
