A day after winning in the wild-card round, Northwood’s girls tennis team maintained its momentum with a 12-6 victory over Villa Park on Wednesday in a CIF-SS Division 1 first round matchup at Villa Park High.

“They got us working overtime,” Northwood coach John Tichy joked after watching his team earn its second win in as many days. “It was beautiful though. It really was a team effort today. We just got better as things went on. The matchups went our way in the second and third round.”

After the teams split the opening round, 3-3, the Timberwolves (14-5) went on to win four sets in the second round and five in the third.

Northwood went 8-1 in doubles against the Spartans (15-3), receiving sweeps from the Frances KrollDeepika Reddy pair and the Angelyn LeCarolyn Dear tandem.

Megan Mansonhing and partner Ashley Le went 2-1.

“Stellar day for our doubles core,” Tichy added. “They’ve been playing great these last two days.”

Senior Kerisa Lin notched three points with a sweep on the singles side, capping a stellar afternoon with a 7-5 win over the Crestview League singles champ Soly Colling.
