The pairings and information for the CIF-SS boys soccer playoffs.
DIVISION 5
Seeded teams: 1. Santiago, 2. Ganesha, 3. Indian Springs, 4. Crossroads
Dates: first round, Friday; second round, Feb. 24; quarterfinals, Feb. 26; semifinals, March 1; finals, March 4.
Dottore’s comments: Santiago, the defending champions, are the top seed heading back into the postseason. The Cavaliers appear to be poised for a repeat. Santiago cruised to the Garden Grove League championship, scoring three or more goals in eight of its 10 games. So it’s no surprise the Cavaliers have three players in the top 15 in the county in scoring. . . . Ramon Yepez leads the team with 15 goals, which puts him in a tie for sixth on the county leaderboard. Israel Celis and Julio Garcia follow with 12 goals and 11 goals. . . . So who is going to pose the biggest challenge along the way for Santiago? Possibly Crossroads. The Roadrunners bring an 11-match unbeaten streak into the playoffs. They could meet the Cavaliers in the semis. . . . Or Ganesha. The Giants have only lost once in 22 matches this season, and have scored as many as 16 goals – yes, 16– in one game.
Prediction: Santiago wins it again, beating Ganesha in the championship.
