A day after pitching a complete-game victory in a 3-1 victory in the CIF-SS Division 1 Finals against Foothill, Santa Margarita’s Griffin Canning received some more good news on Saturday.

Canning, who has signed to play at UCLA, was selected in the 38th round, 1,133rd overall, by the Colorado Rockies on the third day of baseball’s First-Year Player draft.

Canning struck out 11 batters and gave up just two hits in Friday’s victory against the Knights.

Esperanza shortstop Tristan Hildebrandt was the first county player taken. His name was called in the 16th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Newport Harbor pitcher Connor Seabold was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 19th round.

Brea Olinda pitcher Cameron Bishop went to Arizona Diamondbacks in Round 32.

Orange Lutheran’s Garett King and Villa Park’s Brandon Gonzalez were each taken in the 36th round by the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, respectively.

Fountain Valley’s Brock Lundquist was taken in the 37th round, while El Dorado’s Nathan Rodriguez was selected in the 39th. Rodriguez was drafted by Colorado. Lundquist taken by the Oakland Athletics.
