Mission Viejo Nadadores swim coach Bill Rose, who has guided Orange County Olympians and national team members since he took the reins of the world-renowned club in 1992, will retire in December of 2017, he said Wednesday.

Rose 73, said he is in good health and reached the decision with his wife, Siga, who is retiring this summer as an age-group coach at the club.

“It’s probably best that I spend some quality time with my grand kids and my wife,” he said. “It’s been a great ride. But I’ve got to remind myself, it’s not over yet.”

Rose has coached Olympians such as Lisa Jacob, Chad Carvin, Larsen Jensen and Chloe Sutton and standouts such as the late Fran Crippen, Katie McLaughlin, Tom Shields, Justin Mortimer, Ashley Twitchell and Grant Shoults.

Rose was inducted into the American Swim Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004 and has been a leading coach for open water swimming.
