Rosary won its third consecutive Trinity League game in as many days Wednesday, topping No. 7 Mater Dei, 5-2, to force a three-way tie for second place in league.

Rosary broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fifth inning. An RBI double from Andi Hester and a two-run single from Sarah Ellersick put the Royals ahead for good.

Because of the three-way tie, there were postgame coin flips between Rosary (19-7-1, 4-4), Mater Dei (21-7, 4-4) and Santa Margarita (16-10, 4-4). The Eagles came away the big winners, garnering the league’s No. 2 playoff seed.

The Monarchs and Royals will play again Thursday afternoon to determine the league’s final guaranteed playoff berth. Because Mater Dei won that toss, the Monarchs will host the game at Carl Thornton Park in Santa Ana.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 9, Santiago 2: Taryn Nadeau doubled twice, drove in three runs and stole three bases in leading the Aztecs (17-8, 7-3) to their first second place finish in league in 25 years.

In the Sea View League:

San Clemente 3, Laguna Hills 0: The Tritons (12-10-1, 6-2) played their way to a co-league championship by blanking the visiting Hawks (18-6, 6-2) in the regular-season finale. Laguna Hills managed only two hits on the afternoon and were shutout for the first time all season.

In the North Hills League:

Foothill 2, Villa Park 1: The Knights (15-11, 4-2) edged out the Spartans (16-11, 4-2) for the second time this season, earning co-league champ status in the process.
