Sally Riley, wife of veteran Edison swim and water polo coach Diggy Riley and the inspiration for an outpouring of support at a meet last week, died Wednesday from cancer, Riley said in an e-mail.

Sally Riley, 50, also was the mother of two grown children, Tanner, and Lindsay.

“She is now cancer-free, pain-free and enjoying the heavens with her brothers and sisters in Christ,” Diggy Riley wrote. “She was, and still is, an inspiration to anyone who knew her. She was an amazing mother, daughter, wife and friend and she will be sorely missed by all.”

At last week’s Edison-Fountain Valley swim meet, Edison’s swimmers wrote “Team Sally” and “#swim4sally” on their backs, arms and legs in a sign of support.

Updated: A memorial service for Sally will be held Saturday, April 18 at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach at noon. A memorial website also has been established at memorialwebsites.legacy.com/sallyriley/homepage.aspx

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the website.
