Mission Viejo senior Alyssa Palomino hit two more home runs Thursday afternoon, giving her the CIF State softball record for career homers.

Palomino entered the South Coast League game against visiting El Toro tied for the top spot in the record book with three others with 53 homers.

The left-handed hitting, Arizona-bound outfielder nearly broke the record in her first at-bat, hitting a ground-rule double.

She broke the record with an opposite-field shot in the second inning. She added another home run later in the game.

They were 12th and 13th homers of the season.

As a sophomore, Palomino broke the Orange County record for home runs in a season with 18. As a junior she hit 17 home runs.

The national record for career homers, according to the National Federation of High School Associations, is 72, set by Shelby Holley of Pisagh High (Alabama) from 2008-11
