SANTA ANA – University’s boys swim team raced to three meet records Friday during its first crack at the Foothill Swim Games record book.

Corey Okubo, Daniel Tran and the 200-yard medley relay team established records to highlight a dominating performance by the Trojans during prelims for Saturday’s 10 a.m. finals.

University qualified first in 10 of the 11 events, including the top three spots in the 100 free and the top four in the breaststroke.

Okubo broke Darren Ward’s 1985 record for Sonora in the 200 individual medley by stopping the clock in a county-leading and automatic All-America 1 minute, 50.01 seconds. Last season, the Princeton-bound Okubo broke Ward’s long-standing county record in the 200 IM.

Tran broke Olympic gold medalist Aaron Peirsol’s meet record in the 100 backstroke. The junior qualified first in 50.37, which sliced almost four-tenths of a second off the standard from Peirsol’s freshman season at Newport Harbor.

University’s medley relay of Tran, Michael Schiffer, Okubo and Will Hofstadter qualified first in 1:34.87, smashing Irvine’s 1999 meet record by more than two seconds.
