ANAHEIM – At Savanna High’s homecoming game, the Savanna Rebels crowned themselves victorious by dominating Century, 40-0, on Friday night for its first Orange League victory of the season.

The Rebels (4-3, 1-1) took an early lead at the end of the first quarter that they maintained for the entire game.

Rebels quarterback Ryley Smith had 163 passing yards and two of Savanna’s six touchdowns.

Davonte Porchia and Sammy Delgadillo were the Rebels’ top scoring receiver and running back, respectively, with four touchdowns between them. Porchia also gained a total of 103 yards, while Delgadillo gained 43.

Running back Alexis Rodriguez gained a total of 95 rushing yards for the Centurions (1-6, 0-2).

The first half was a total gridlock. If not for a few late-quarter touchdowns, neither team would have had a clear advantage.

Despite the constant turnovers, Smith managed to sneak a couple long touchdown passes past the Centurions defense, including the 63-yarder to Porchia with one second left in the first quarter and a clutch, 20-yard, one-handed catch by Antonio Diez at the end of the second.

“We needed to control the ball,” said Rebels coach Roger Whalen. “The game was about keeping it alive with short runs.”
