CHINO – Jacob Fimbres scored four touchdowns to help Sonora head into its bye week 4-0 in a 34-14 nonleague victory at Don Lugo Friday night.

The Raiders have time to heal and will open Freeway League play Oct. 3 when they host Whittier Christian.

Fimbres’ 4-yard score with 1:10 left in the first quarter gave Sonora a 7-0 lead.

After Don Lugo’s Preston Carr tied the game at 7-7 on a 4-yard run in the second quarter, Fimbres opened the second half with a 28-yard scoring run, and then took a pass from Cole McDonald 85 yards to give the Raiders a 21-7 lead with 5:19 to go in the third period.

Cramps kept Fimbres out the rest of the quarter, but he returned to put the game away with a 7-yard scoring run late in the fourth.

The junior finished with 165 yards on 27 carries.

McDonald also connected with Jason Clayton on a 33-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter.

“It was frustrating being on the sidelines and I felt like my team needed me, so I was glad to get back into the game (in the fourth quarter),” Fimbres said. “We need to spend the bye week getting healthy, but we need to work harder at practice and get ready for league.”

McDonald completed 10 of 22 passes for 268 yards, had two touchdowns and was picked off twice by Don Lugo’s (2-2) David Delgado.

Carr’s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter accounted for the other Conquistadores score.

Ben Kim had 11 carries for 83 yards for Sonora, and Clayton had three catches for 73 yards.
