Another impressive winning streak by Mater Dei’s boys water polo program will be put to the test tonight.

The program that once captured 105 consecutive matches, didn’t lose to an Orange County team for nearly six years and claimed five straight CIF titles will be challenged by visiting Orange Lutheran in the Trinity League.

Mater Dei (11-2) is ranked No. 1 in Orange County while the Lancers (12-1) are third.

The match, set for 6 p.m., will put the Monarchs’  streak of nine consecutive league titles on the line. Mater Dei has posted 41 consecutive league victories overall and hasn’t lost in the Trinity League since a 7-5 decision at home against Servite in their league opener in 2006.

Orange Lutheran’s varsity joined the Trinity League in 2013. Last season, Mater Dei beat the Lancers, 13-7, and went onto to claim its sixth CIF title.

In 2014, the Monarchs beat the Lancers, 16-6.

Mater Dei’s county winning streak was snapped earlier this season against Corona del Mar, which beat the Monarchs, 9-8, in the quarterfinals of the South Coast Tournament. Orange Lutheran later beat CdM, 11-10, in the third-place match.
