OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
FAIRMONT PREP HUSKIES
Coach: Fred Romo
Last season: 2-8 overall, 0-5 league
Scouting report: Fairmont Prep frequently faces challenges in fielding a sizable roster. When Ramsey Glover (broken foot) went down before the first game last year, it had to feel like the straw that broke the camel’s back. Glover, a 6-foot-4, 210-pounder, gives the Huskies an impact player in the receiving game and at outside linebacker. The Huskies struggled to finish games in the fourth quarter a year ago. They will look to the trio of Darwyn Gines, Kiki Mendoza and Glover to be difference-makers late.
Bottom line: The Huskies are not as deep as most teams, but if healthy, an improved pass rush could lead to better results.
Players to watch: Darwyn Gines, QB/CB, Sr.; Ramsey Glover, WR/OLB, Sr.; Kevin Karam, TE/ILB, So.; Tasmania Malaga, OT/MLB, So.; Kiki Mendoza, RB/SS, Sr.
