In swimming prelims on Tuesday:
In Golden West League boys:
Christian Estiamba doesn’t hail from a year-round swim club and raced in a traditional brief-style suit. But the Ocean View senior still showed plenty of speed at Ocean View.
Estiamba qualified first for Thursday’s finals in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles in automatic CIF Division 4 times.
He blazed to a season-best time of 22.61 seconds in the 50 and returned in the 100 to touch in 50.20.
In North Hills League girls:
Freshman Linda Cho of host Brea Olinda qualified first in the 200 individual medley (2:13.37) and 100 back (1:01.25) in Division 2 consideration times and Canyon’s Lindsey Theos broke 26-seconds in the 50 free (25.99).
In Crestview League boys:
Mark Wyse of Esperanza blazed a top-qualifying 21.44 in the 50 free at Villa Park and also secured the No. 1 spot in the 100 free (47.66).
In the Academy League:
Crean Lutheran’s Kevin Chao established a meet record in the 500 free with a Division 2-qualifying 4:44.94 at Kennedy.
In Sea View League boys:
Laguna Hills freshman Matt Hales grabbed the top seeds at El Toro in the 200 (1:42.24) and 500 (4:34.36) freestyles.
In South Coast League boys:
Tesoro’s Daniel Kim (butterfly, 49.90) and San Clemente’s Josh Swart (back, 49.97) broke difficult barriers at Capistrano Valley.
