Huntington Beach brings its 113 consecutive match winning streak into this year’s Best of the West Invitational.

The Oilers are the defending back-to-back champions of the two-day tournament. They are the overall top seed in the tournament and are in Pool 1 along with Highland, El Segundo and Del Norte.

Loyola is the top seed in pool 2, along with Valencia, Servite and Poway.

Corona del Mar is the top seed in pool 3. The Sea Kings are grouped with Newbury Park, Clovis and Westview.

Mira Costa is the top seed in pool 4. The Mustangs are joined by Mater Dei, Carlsbad and Dos Pueblos.

Westlake is top seed in pool 5. Palos Verdes, Cathedral Catholic and Orange Lutheran are also in that pool.  Oak Park leads Pool 6 (Santa Barbara, La Costa Canyon and Bellarmine).

Buchanan is top seed in pool 7. Newport Harbor is the second seed and is joined by St. John Bosco and Otay Ranch.

San Clemente is top seed in pool 8. The Tritons are joined by Redondo Union, Thousand Oaks and Moanalua.

Pool play begins at 3 p.m. Friday at Alliant University (10455 Pomerado Rd, San Diego, CA 92131)

Saturday, the first and second place teams from each pool will advanced to playoffs at Epic Volleyball Club (13955 Stowe Dr., Poway, CA 92064)

Third place teams will move to Westview HS (13500 Camino del Sur,
San Diego, CA 92129) and all fourth-place teams will go to Poway HS (15500 Espola Rd, Poway, CA 92064).

Outlook: I expect Huntington Beach to go undefeated in pool play. The challenge will be getting through the playoff bracket, where they might have to cross paths with teams like Loyola, Corona del Mar, Mira Costa. Newport Harbor is also a team to watch. It wouldn’t be surprise if the Sailors win their pool (seven).

All matches are best 2 of 3.
