Outlook: Both schools are gunning for their first CIF-SS boys basketball championships. Orangewood Academy finished third in the four-team San Joaquin League and qualified for the playoffs as an at-large team. Still, the Spartans were the No. 1-seeded team in the division. Marcus Berkley, a 6-foot-3 senior, leads Orangewood with 22 points a game. Mubashar Ali, a 7-foot junior, is averaging eight points and 10 rebounds. Caleb Thomas, a 6-6 senior, is scoring 12 points a game. Hesperia Christian won the Agape League championship with a 10-0 league record. The Patriots are led by 6-1 senior guard Jared Hayes, who is averaging 14 points a game. Hesperia Christian’s average margin of victory in the playoffs is 32 points, and that includes a two-point win over Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia in the semifinals. Orangewood’s average margin of victory in the playoffs is 37 points.
