Mission Viejo’s girls water polo team continued to play like a CIF contender on Thursday, defeating host Trabuco Hills, 9-3, to improve to 3-0 in the Sea View League.

Megan Patterson scored four goals and Tiffany Sims made 13 saves to lead the Diablos (18-4, 3-0), who are ranked third in CIF-SS Division 4.

Mission Viejo also got two goals apiece from Emilee Feilmeier and Skylar Newhouser.

“We are improving every day,” Mission Viejo coach Jeff Rach said. “We played great, team-lockdown defense and Megan Patterson had an outstanding game offensively and defensively.”

Sarah Kreiser scored three goals for the Mustangs (9-7, 0-2), ranked ninth in Division 4. On Tuesday, Mission Viejo beat eighth-ranked Laguna Hills, 15-10.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 6, Buena Park 5: Megan Tanielu scored from center with 16 seconds left to help lift the visiting Lancers (14-6, 2-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Beckman 8, Irvine 3: The visiting Patriots (8-4, 4-0) held the Vaqueros to one goal in the final 23 minutes, 31 seconds.

In nonleague:

Yorba Linda 14, Palos Verdes 9: Amy Castellano and Brittany Amaya each scored five goals for visiting Mustangs (10-9).

In the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions:

El Toro 13, Riverside Poly 8: The Chargers won their play-in match at Santa Barbara to advance to Friday’s first-round game against top-seeded Laguna Beach (12-0), which extended its winning streak to 33 games with a 19-5 nonleague-victory at Dos Pueblos of Goleta on Thursday. Makenzie Fischer scored five goals for Laguna Beach.
