CIF STATE GIRLS VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

DIVISION I

Edison (35-8) vs. Menlo-Atherton of Atherton (30-5)

Where, when: Santiago Canyon College, Friday, 4 p.m.

Fan info: General admission, $12; children, students (w/ASB card) and seniors, $8; parking, $5. The match will shown taped Saturday at 10 a.m. on Spectrum Community channel.

Outlook: Edison is making its first appearance in the state final. The Chargers, who shared the Sunset League title with Huntington Beach, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. During the SoCal Regional playoffs, the Chargers swept their first two matches, then defeated Lakewood in five sets and swept Huntington Beach in the regional final. One of the keys for the Chargers has been their balanced attack, with senior outside hitter Hannah Phair, Cassidy Dennison and junior opposite Taylor Gray. The middles, Kristen Austin and Maggie Gunther, are also viable options for junior setter Lindsey Sparks. The Bears were the top seed in the Northern California bracket. They dropped just one set in the regional playoffs. This is the second consecutive state finals appearance for the Bears. They lost to Redondo Union last year. Seniors Jacqueline Disanto (423 kills) and Eliza Grover (410 kills) were co-MVPs of their league. The Bears lost in the quarterfinals of the CIF Central Coast Open Division playoffs.
