TUSTIN – After almost two months of playing golf, it all comes down to this. One match to determine the Pacific Coast League championship.

On Tuesday, No. 10 Beckman beat No. 5 Corona del Mar, 197-200, at Tustin Ranch Golf Club to remain tied for first with Woodbridge.

The Warriors will play host to the Patriots on Thursday at Rancho San Joaquin with the winner claiming the title in what has become quite possibly the most competitive league in boys golf in the county. Both teams have one loss in league.

“This is our biggest win (of the season). It will definitely give us a lot of confidence heading into Thursday,” said Brett Robinson, who posted an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors for the Patriots (14-3, 7-1). “I think our team played well today, and definitely came in clutch, especially, our 5 and 6 guys. I think this was good, too, for Everton (Hawkins).”

Hawkins finished with a 39 in the match which was played on the back nine in a strong, gusting Santa Ana wind, which Robinson described as the worst he has ever played in at Tustin Ranch. On some holes, he said, it was a three-club wind.

Johnny Hyun, who will defend his PCL championship next week, added a 1-over par 37 for Beckman.

Hale Furey and Drew Hanson both carded a 38 to lead the Sea Kings.

To get ready for Thursday’s showdown with Woodbridge, Robinson said Beckman played a practice round at Rancho San Joaquin last week.

“I think we will all be ready,” Robinson said. “We will practice hard tomorrow, and hopefully, we can get a win.”
