Last season: 4-6 overall, 1-4 in league
Scouting report: The Patriots are in a rebuilding phase with new coach Marcello Giuliano taking over as coach. He inherits a strong group of returning linemen, led by two-way starter Jett Zeimantz. Quarterback Dean Nagle returns after completing 56.4 percent of his passes with 751 yards last season. Senior Demetrius Goods (5-11, 180) is one of the key returners at the wide receiver position. The Patriots have solid pieces back at linebacker and in the secondary. There are concerns about depth and experience, but there are several sophomores preparing to step in and help.
Bottom line: The Patriots need some of the new starters to step in early and contribute if they’re going to make a push for a playoff berth.
