The Register’s player of the year.
Alyaa Abdulghany, Corona del Mar, Sr.
The 2015 CIF State champion she set a course record at El Niguel Country Club, shooting an 8-under-par 28 on the front nine. She posted a 3-under-par 69 during the final round of the California Women’s State Open to win the inaugural SCPGA tournament by one stroke. She won two of her matches to help the United States defeat Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup. She is third in the Golfweek Sagarin rankings.
Hailey Borja, Trabuco Hills, So.
She finished the CIF-SS postseason tournaments with a 75.3 scoring average. She posted an even-par 72 at Arrowhead Country Club to tie for 12th in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship. She shot 5-over-par 76 at Dad Miller Golf Course to make the cut for the CIF-SS Individual Championship.
Caroline Cantlay, Rosary, Sr.
She posted an even-par 71 at Dad Miller Golf Course and finished third in the CIF-SS Southern Individual Regional. She posted 2-over-par 74 at Western Hills Country Club to tie for fifth in the CIF-SS Individual Championship. She posted a 1-over-par 73 at Arrowhead Country Club in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship.
Irene Kim, Kennedy, So.
She finished fourth in the WSCGA Southern California Championship with a 4-under-par 68 at Arrowhead Country Club. She qualified for the CIF State Championship and tied for sixth with a 1-over-par 75 at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga. She placed fourth in the CIF-SS Individual Championship with a 1-under-par 71 at Western Hills Country Club. She fired a 1-under-par 71 at Dad Miller Golf Course to finish fourth in the CIF-SS Southern Individual Regional.
Hannah Ko, Sunny Hills, Jr.
She posted a 4-over-par 76 on the Vineyard Course at River Ridge Golf Course in the CIF-SS Northern Individual Regional. She made the cut for the CIF-SS Individual Championship at Western Hills Country Club, where she posted a 3-over-par 75 to tie for ninth. She posted an even-par 72 at Arrowhead Country Club to tie for 12th in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship.
Brittany Park, Valencia, Sr.
She finished the year with a 36.2 scoring average while playing on a par-37 home course. She carded a a 3-over-par 74 at Dad Miller Golf Course to finish in the top 15 at the CIF-SS Southern Individual Regional. She posted a 1-over-par 73 at Arrowhead Country Club in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship, her third consecutive round in the 70s during the postseason.
Mary Shin, Sage Hill, Jr.
She finished second in the CIF-SS Southern Individual Regional on a card-off after shooting a 1-under-par 70 at Dad Miller Golf Course to tie for first place. She tied for ninth in the CIF-SS Individual Regional, carding a 3-over-par 75 at Western Hills Country Club. She posted an even-par 72 at Arrowhead Country Club to tie for 12th in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship. She was one of two county golfers to qualify of the CIF State Championship.
Joan Soewondo, Dana Hills, Sr.
She won the South Coast League championship for the second year in a row, finishing the 36-hole championship at San Juan Hills Golf Course with a 4-over 146. She tied for 14th in the CIF-SS Southern Inidividual Regional, shooting a 3-over-par 74 at Dad Miller Golf Course. She finished the postseason with a 76.6 scoring average after posting a 5-over-par 77 in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship at Arrowhead Country Club.
Emily Sumner, Foothill, Sr.
She finished second in the CIF-SS Northern Individual Regional with a 4-under par 68 on the Vineyard Course at River Ridge Golf Course. She tied for 12th in the CIF-SS Individual Championship by posting a 4-over-par 76 at Western Hills Country Club. She posted a 1-over-par 73 at Arrowhead Country Club in the WSCGA Southern California Regional Championship.
Isabel Sy, Troy, Fr.
She posted a 79 at Red Hill Country Club to help the Warriors finish second in the team competition at the CIF State Championship. She finished with a 2-under-par 70 and helped the Warriors win the WSCGA Southern California Regional team championship. She carded a 2-over-par 73 at Jurupa Hills Country Club to help the Warriors win the CIF-SS Eastern Team Regional championship.
