Marina’s Nick Swanson posted a 6-under-par 66 in the final round of the ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior on Thursday to tie for second in the AJGA tournament at Mission Hills Country Club in Desert Mirage.
He holed eight birides on Tuesday, fired a 32 on the back nine and finished the 54-hole tournament with a 5-under-par 211.
He lost a three-hole playoff with Jamie Cheatham (Rancho Santa Fe), who chipped on his final hole to make it into the sudden death showdown for the boys division championship. which also featured Daniel Lopez (Los Angeles)
Ramiz Jamal, Swanson’s teammate on the Vikings’ boys golf team, finished tied for fifth with Servite’s Matt Wilson. Both posted a even-par 216.
In the second round, Wilson, the Register’s Boys Golf of the Year, eagled the par-5 No. 2 to shoot a 2-under 70.
In the girls division, Irvine’s Euna Pak tied for eight with a 6-over-par 222 and Newport Harbor’s Grace Farrell placed 17th.
