OCVarsity has the pairings and breakdown for all of the CIF-SS girls basketball divisions.
DIVISION 1A
Top four seeds: 1. Mira Costa; 2. Huntington Beach; 3. Summit; 4. Valley View.
Last year’s final: West Torrance def. Troy, 52-41
Playoff dates: First round (Feb. 18), second round (Feb. 20), quarterfinals (Feb. 24), semifinals (Feb. 27), final (March 4 or 5).
CONNOLLY’S COMMENTS: Huntington Beach really benefitted from Cajon being chosen for the Open Division. The Oilers find themselves as the No. 2 overall seed because of it, and will look to its three-headed scoring attack in Frankie Wade-Sanchez, Samantha Gray and Kaylyn Nakaji to lead the way. Getting consistent scoring from three viable options is something most clubs can’t boast. While Coach Russ McClurg knows he’s blessed with that, he still believes the play on the defensive end will dictate how far this team can go. “Locking down is the biggest thing for us,” he said. “We’ve got to lock down the best players on opponent’s side if we want to give ourselves a chance to win.”
