Girls basketball playoffs: Div. 1AA pairings, Connolly's breakdown
OCVarsity has the pairings and breakdown for all of the CIF-SS girls basketball divisions.
Top four seeds: 1. Ventura; 2. Valencia/Valencia; 3. LB Millikan; 4. Centennial/Corona.
Last year's final: Windward def. Etiwanda, 51-37
Playoff dates: First round (Feb. 18), second round (Feb. 20), quarterfinals (Feb. 24), semifinals (Feb. 27), final (March 4 or 5).
CONNOLLY'S COMMENTS: Even if 13 teams were plucked from 1AA and placed in the Open Division, this is still an insanely difficult bracket to navigate through. Orangewood Academy and Los Alamitos are the lone ranked county teams here, and both have the skill to win a couple games over the next few weeks. . . . The Spartans have a skilled stable of backcourt players that play solid defense and knock down the open deep ball. The key is getting consistent production from forwards Estefania Giner and Jaqueline Saucedo. . . . For Los Al, Dani Iwami and Cailyn Crocker have teamed to become one of the area's best 1-2 guard combos. The Griffins have won 12 in a row and have seemingly found their stride at the right time. That being said, there's still a long road ahead for both these squads in the coming weeks.
