ALISO VIEJO – Pacifica tallied 521 yards of offense in a 42-7 win over Aliso Niguel on Friday at Aliso Niguel High.

Mariners quarterback Ben Jefferson completed 17 of 27 pass attempts for 268 yards and five touchdowns.

Pacifica (3-2) wasted no time scoring Friday. On its opening drive, Jefferson completed his first touchdown pass, a 9-yard strike to Matt Moslenko for a 7-0 lead.

After Aliso turned it over on downs, Jefferson capped an 84-yard scoring drive with a 4-yard touchdown run that put Pacifica ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

On the Mariners’ next possession, Jefferson threw to Nate Deaton, who broke a tackle and scored from 34 yards out.

On the ensuing play, the Wolverines fumbled a handoff and Pacifica linebacker Joe Meza recovered. Jefferson then threw a tunnel screen to Bobby Santos for a touchdown to give the Mariners a 28-0 lead.

With one minute remaining in the first half, Jefferson threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Syrus Collins to put the Mariners up 35-0 at halftime.

The Wolverines (1-4) didn’t give up after the lopsided first half. Quarterback Nate Sorensen led the Wolverines on a touchdown drive on their first possession of the second half, hitting Tommie Matossian in the end zone for the score.

Raul Balderas rushed for 167 yards for Pacifica, 91 of which came in the second half.

Aliso (1-4) struggled to put together drives offensively. They had 219 yards of offense, 175 of which coming through the air.

Pacifica has won three games in a row following a 0-2 start. They host Valencia next week in their Empire League opener.
