HUNTINGTON BEACH – The Pacifica Mariners defeated the Estancia Eagles, 38-8, Friday night in a nonleague road game.

Pacifica quarterback Nick Garcia threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two as he finished with 308 all-purpose yards, 197 passing and 111 rushing.

The game started sluggish as both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. Pacifica marched down the field on its first drive of the night until a fumble was recovered by Estancia’s Israel Arroyo in the red zone.

Garcia connected with wide receiver Matt Moslenko for a 38-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second quarter.

After forcing Estancia into a quick three-and-out, Pacifica’s Garcia hit Aundre Purnell with a 27-yard TD strike, giving the Mariners a 14-0 lead.

Shortly after, Pacifica‘s Marcus Tolbert scored on a 4-yard touchdown run, giving the Mariners a 21-0 advantage. Tolbert finished with 79 yards and a TD.

With one minute left in the second quarter, Garcia scrambled into the end zone from 15 yards out, giving the Mariners (2-0) a 28-0 halftime lead. Following the half, Garcia scored on a 2-yard sneak.

Estancia (1-1) was led by Connor Brown who had 115 passing yards.
