Corona del Mar’s boys water polo team snapped Mater Dei’s long winning streak against Orange County opponents with an overtime victory Friday at the South Coast Tournament.

Mitchell Cooper the winner as the winner as the fifth-ranked Sea Kings defeated Mater Dei, 9-8, in the quarterfinals of the tournament at Corona del Mar.

It was Mater Dei’s first loss against a county team since El Toro beat the Monarchs, 11-10, Oct. 18, 2010.

Cooper, center Tamir Avital and Henry Wilde each scored twice for the Sea Kings.

Corona del Mar also snapped Mater Dei’s streak of consecutive South Coast titles at six.

The Sea Kings play Huntington Beach in the semifinals Saturday at Newport Harbor at 11:45 a.m. In the first semifinal, Orange Lutheran takes on top-seeded Harvard-Westlake at 10:40 a.m.

The championship is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

In other quarterfinals:

Huntington Beach 7, Foothill 4: Quentin Osborne scored four goals and Patrick Saunders made 12 saves to lead the visiting Oilers, who led, 6-1, at halftime. Joe Molina scored three goals for Foothill.

Orange Lutheran 11, Agoura 8: Hannes Daube, Matt Kacura and center Josh Orrick each scored three goals to lead the Lancers at Santa Margarita. The Lancers face top-seeded Harvard-Westlake, a 12-4 winner against Newport Harbor, in the semifinals.
