OCVarsity has the pairings and breakdown for all of the CIF-SS girls basketball divisions.

OPEN DIVISION

Top four seeds: 1. Long Beach Poly; 2. Brea Olinda; 3. Chaminade; 4. Vista Murrieta.

Last year’s final: Chaminade def. Mater Dei, 64-63

Playoff dates: First round (Feb. 20), second round (Feb. 24), semifinals (Feb. 27), championship game (March 5). Consolation bracket: second round (Feb. 23), semifinals (Feb. 24), final (March 3 or 4).

CONNOLLY’S COMMENTS: The Open Division committee did exactly what Brea Olinda coach Jeff Sink thought it needed to do – show the Ladycats some love. Brea beat five Open Division teams over the course of the season, and was well deserving of the No. 2 overall seed. That being said, there’s no “easy” road to the final no matter where you’re placed in this division. Brea is very likely going to have to go through either Mater Dei or Chaminade – the two Open Division finalists from a season ago – in the semis to get to the final this year. . . . . The Monarchs quite possibly have the toughest road to make a third straight final. The Trinity League champs open against an Etiwanda team that has historically played them close, and if it is to survive that game, would in all likelihood be awarded with Chaminade. . . .  Fairmont Prep makes its Open Division debut against No. 1 Long Beach Poly. . . . No. 9 Troy is the wild card. The Warriors have one of the best backcourts in the Southern Section, and when healthy, can compete with anyone in this bracket.
