BREA – It wasn’t a thing of beauty, but Brea Olinda’s 18-0 victory over visiting El Dorado on Friday night was good enough to secure a second-place finish in the North Hills League.

The Wildcats (5-5, 2-1), who advance to the Southern Division playoffs, mustered just over 200 total yards on offense and were penalized heavily, but the defense was dominant and forced six turnovers by the Golden Hawks (0-10, 0-3).

Nick Drury’s 24-yard scoring strike to Matt Christ gave Brea Olinda a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Billy Hanley jogged in untouched from 5 yards out on the first drive of the second half to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 15-0.

Matteo Miralaie added a 34-yard field goal for Brea Olinda in the fourth quarter.

“They (El Dorado) did a good job of stunting and blitzing, and it was hard to replicate in practice,” Brea Olinda coach Robb Perrance said. “We talk about the three seasons in football and to improve weekly, and we’re doing that.”

Drury finished 7 of 12 for 106 yards and the score.

“Our defense was great tonight, and I think we got production from just about everyone,” Drury said.

Daniel Bucaro was the lone offensive bright spot for El Dorado, rushing for a game-high 93 yards on 20 carries.

Jonathan Laverde and Malik Campbell recovered fumbles for Brea Olinda, while Hanley picked off the Golden Hawks’ Dominic Martinez.

Austin Shear, who replaced a struggling Martinez at quarterback for El Dorado in the fourth quarter, was 3 of 3 for 58 yards before leaving the game with concussion symptoms.
