FULLERTON Highlights and notes from the North’s hour-long scrimmage Tuesday night as it prepared for Thursday’s Brea Lions Orange County All-Star Game at Orange Coast College:

* Quarterbacks Scott Lloyd of Fullerton and Dylan Osborne of Villa Park each showed good timing and accuracy on their short passes. Osborne also connected with Canyon wide receiver Chris Prescott for a deep pass. Lloyd, bound for a Dartmouth prep school, later dazzled with a long run.

* Sticking with wide receiver, Los Alamitos’ Dashawn Gordon nearly made a slick, one-handed touchdown grab on a well-placed pass by Lloyd.

* Mater Dei running back Justin Allen (Fresno State) showed off a nifty cutback move that led to a nice gain.

* Kennedy offensive lineman Nathan Trent (6-2, 275) delivered one of the best pulling blocks. Trent is part of a unit that includes Orange Lutheran guard Shane Gama (6-4, 325) and Tustin tackle Michael Cooper (6-4, 300) on the right side. Gama and Cooper play with an intensity than could serve the North well. Garden Grove’s Christian Rodriguez is another offensive lineman to watch.

* Surprise offensive standout for co-coach Gus Martinez of Fullerton: Servite running back Nick Lopiccola (5-6, 165). “He’s been fun to watch,” Martinez said. The coach also mentioned the size of the offensive line. “That’s something we don’t get (at Fullerton),” he said. “That’s a lot of beef. I don’t know the last time the North has had that much size.”

* Orange Lutheran wide receiver Adam Connette (Minnesota-Crookston) looked like one of the North’s most versatile players. Orange Lutheran defensive back Isaiah Walton also played some receiver.

* Switching to defense, Los Alamitos’ Michael Hayden played linebacker and defensive end. “He’s a versatile kid,” Fullerton co-coach Ed De Avila said. “And he’s well-schooled.”

 * Surprise defensive standouts for De Avila: Canyon defensive end Cameron Henry, Foothill linebacker Cole Major and Mater Dei safety/cornerback London Iakopo. Iakopo said he is headed to Long Beach City College.

 * Defensive linemen Adrian Lomelli of La Habra and Adam O’Shea of Servite were disruptive while linebacker Bryan Quexel of Garden Grove and safety Deryck Fletcher of Fullerton showed good instincts against the run.

* Potential matchup to watch Thursday: Villa Park cornerback Derrick Kendrick, who is 6-foot-2, against El Toro receiver Dominic Collins, who is 6-foot-3. Kendrick broke up a deep pass Tuesday.

*Buena Park defensive lineman Braxton Word has replaced Villa Park defensive lineman Louis Vecchio, who is injured.

* All-star treatment: The North is being treated to team meals at Roscoes in Fullerton on Wednesday night and a barbecue in the Costa Mesa area before the game Thursday. “We’re treating the kids the best we can,” Martinez said. “They should be ready to go. Hopefully they don’t eat too much.”
