Mater Dei’s boys water polo team, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, and No. 2 Huntington Beach will play this week in the new California Elite 8 tournament at Harvard-Westlake of Studio City.
The eight-team tournament, which runs Thursday through Saturday, also features top-seeded Harvard-Westlake, Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton, Loyola of Los Angeles, Miramonte, Agoura and San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic.
Mater Dei and Huntington Beach clash Friday night at 6:15.
Here are the first-round games Thursday:
Harvard-Westlake vs. Cathedral Catholic, 2:45 p.m.
Mater Dei vs. Agoura, 4 p.m.
Sacred Heart Prep vs. Loyola, 5:15 p.m.
Huntington Beach vs. Miramonte, 6;30 p.m.

The semifinals start Saturday at noon with the first-place team from Group A taking on the second-place team in Group B. In the other semifinal, the Group B winner will take on the second-place team from Group A.
