OCVarsity preview of the 2015 season:
TRABUCO HILLS MUSTANGS
Coach: Joe Silvey
Last season: 10-4 overall, 3-1 league
Scouting report: The reigning CIF Southwest Division champion lost two returning All-CIF players – Brenden and Colin Schooler transfered this month to Mission Viejo – but the cupboard isn’t bare. The Mustangs return All-CIF running back Chad Crosbie, who rushed for almost 1,300 yards last season, standout defensive lineman Austin Fine, linebacker Scott Kruger (96 tackles in 2014), receiver/linebacker Noah Strenn and kicker/punter Joel Velasquez. Trabuco Hills also found a strong replacement for CIF coach of the year Tony Henney in Silvey, the team’s defensive coordinator last season. The Mustangs have questions to answer. At quarterback, seniors Luukas Harlin and Cooper Uhl are competing for the starting position. Uhl also plays corner. The Mustangs have inexperience along the lines.
Bottom line: If the Mustangs can recharge their passing attack to keep teams from focusing on Crosbie and play solid defense, they’ll be a tough foe in league.
Players to watch: Chad Crosbie, RB, Sr.; Austin Fine, DT, Sr.; Scott Kruger, LB, Sr.; Noah Strenn, WR/LB, Sr.; Joel Velasquez, K/P, Sr.
