For those about to rock, we salute you!

One of my favorite moments in sports happens just before a world championship fight in boxing or MMA.
The hype has been going on for months, everybody has been dissecting the fight and all the talk is finished.
Then comes the last theatrical moment before the actual fight: The ring entrance. The right theme song can make that moment of anticipation even more special.
The right song gets the fighters, the crowd and those watching all over the world on TV worked up into a frenzy.
I have picked out some theme songs for this week’s big O.C. football games. Here is what I would want to have blaring throughout the stadium if it were my team running out onto the field:
No. 6 Mater Dei (3-2) vs. No. 2 Servite (3-2), Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Cal State Fullerton: This is one of the great rivalries in the county. These teams are always in the top 10 and loaded with NCAA prospects. The Trinity League always features bruising, physical slugfests. Double that when the Monarchs and Friars hook up.
The Mater Dei and Servite fanatics bought up all the tickets in minutes last week. So, in honor of this great matchup, AC/DC’s “For those about to rock (We salute you)” should be blasting when these two teams take the field.
The Friars haven’t beaten the Monarchs since 1988, so the theme song for Servite this week is Johnny Cash’s “God’s gonna cut you down.”
No. 1 Mission Viejo (5-0) vs. No. 7 Tesoro (5-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Tesoro High: The Titans handed the Diablos their first South Coast League loss since 1999 last season. Mission Viejo is dead serious about letting the South Coast League know it means business, and what better way than to avenge last year’s loss to the Titans in the league opener.
The Diablos theme song for this week is Public Enemy’s “Welcome to the Terrordome.”
Tesoro gets the “Game of Death” theme song from Bruce Lee’s epic Kung-Fu flick.
No. 2 Edison (4-1) vs. No. 8 Newport Harbor (4-1), Friday, 7 p.m., at Orange Coast College: This has the makings of another physical contest. I would expect to see some big-time hits in this game, and both teams have shown the ability to put a lot of points on the scoreboard.
The Chargers should come out to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” That will get the Charger faithful pumped up. The blood-and-guts warrior himself, Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, always came into the ring to “Thunderstruck.”
For the Sailors, I’m picking Red Rider’s “Lunatic Fringe.” It was good enough for Louden Swain in “Vision Quest,” only the most inspirational high school sports movies ever. MMA stud Dan Henderson also uses “Lunatic Fringe” for his entrance music. You do have to ignore how Red Rider looks. There were a lot of fashion “don’ts” going on in the 1980s.
No. 12 Dana Hills (3-2) vs. No. 9 San Clemente (5-0), Friday, 7 p.m., at San Clemente High: The Dolphins have one of the more exciting offenses in the county and the Tritons confirmed their top-10 credentials with a big victory over La Habra last week.
San Clemente’s song for the week is the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” because it is one of the coolest songs ever. Interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira uses “Gimme Shelter” for his theme song, but I think the “Gimme Shelter” part is meant for his opponents.
The Dana Hills theme song is Supra’s “Blue Moon.” The Dolphins should just adopt this song permanently. One of England’s greatest boxers, Ricky Hatton, and Manchester City futbol club use “Blue Moon” to rally their devoted followers.
Theme song bonus: Some school out there has to find a way to use Japanese MMA sensation Shinya Aoki’s “Baka Survivor” theme song. I just had to throw this one in the mix because it might be the most hilarious song I have ever seen a fighter use during his ring entrance.
These are just some of the ones I came up with. Let me know if you have some good theme song suggestions for other schools around the county in the comments section below.

Nobody dug the “Baka Survivor” song?

or the Mandarin version of “Game of Death,” which featured the classic fight between Bruce Lee and Kareem Abdul Jabbar?

Those are some good entrance song pics Los! I’m totally feelin’ Gimme Shelter and Lunatic Fringe. I usually throw in Baka Survivor before I hit up the massage parlor…I kid, I kid.
When I was in high school we played this team that came out to the breakdown at the end of Metallica’s One, I thought that was pretty killer.
If I was choosing the entrance music I would have to go with something that would make the other team think we were insane and scare their parents like a nice little diddy by Slayer or something.
Great post Los, keep those punches comin’ in bunches!

Thanks for the suggestions Jared. You are wise beyond your years. I will add insanity and scare tactics to my next batch of theme songs.
