One of the top meets of the swimming and diving season will have a spacious new location this week.

The Mission Viejo Invitational will be held Friday and Saturday at the Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. The complex next to Irvine High features two 50-meter pools.

The meet moves north because of the renovation to the Marguerite Recreation Center, the meet’s longtime home.

The boys and girls diving competition will be held Friday at 10 a.m. Fairmont Prep junior Michelle Lee, the CIF-SS Division 4 champion last May, is among the county’s top entries. She finished second at the Esther Suen Memorial meet earlier this month.

The swim meet will hold prelims and finals on Saturday, starting with the prelims at 9 a.m.

Crean Lutheran’s Eva Merrell is among the county’s top entries. The junior entered the 200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke. Teammate Elise Garcia entered the 50 and 100 free. Northwood’s boys also should be competitive.

SAVANNA WELCOMES ALL
One advantage of the Savanna Invitational, which La Habra’s girls swimming team won Saturday, is there no limit on the numbers of swimmers teams can enter.

Savanna coach Dennis Nelson has run the meet for the past 21 seasons.
