The senior broke the oldest school record at Mission Viejo with a county-leading 49.50 in the 100-yard butterfly in a victory against El Toro. Chua edged the 1979 school record of U.S. Olympian Jesse Vassallo (49.60) by a tenth of a second. He also clocked a then county-leading 2:00.20 in the 200 individual medley.
