Cal’s football program landed a commitment Wednesday from another O.C. standout in Edison center Mike Saffell.

Here are a few comments from the senior on why he picked the Golden Bears.

Saffell said it wasn’t just one thing that sold him on Cal but several features.

“The academics are stellar,” he said in a direct message via Twitter. “Coach (Sonny) Dykes and all his staff work well together and have developed an excitement that I want to be part of.

“OL Coach (Brandon) Jones has a very direct coaching style. He demands physical play up front. I like that very much. I think my skill set and the type of offense Coach (Jake) Spavital runs are a good fit.

“The Cal fans, students and alumni are great. I got a chance to talk to many of them. They are all very excited about Cal football. It all added up to being a very good fit. I am very honored for this opportunity.”

Saffell joins CdM quarterback Chase Garbers and Buena Park wide receivers Jeremiah Hawkins and Taariq Johnson as Cal commits.
