Imagine how fast Orange County’s top swimmers will be when they get a little rest.

Several of the county’s best made that a fun exercise Saturday at the 42nd Foothill Swim Games by shaking off fatigue and the early-April challenge to set 10 meet records.

“This year, CIF is going to be ridiculously fast,” Foothill boys assistant coach Tom DeLong said. “We may have the best Southern Section meet ever.”

Crean Lutheran’s girls came off prom Friday night to establish five meet records to help highlight the meet, moved from late April to accommodate various spring breaks. Santa Margarita’s No. 1 girls and University’s No. 1 boys dominated the team competitions.

Crean’s Ella Eastin said she went to sleep at 3:30 Saturday morning but found the strength to smash her meet record in the 200-yard individual medley with a county-leading time of 1 minute, 59.07 seconds.

The junior said a stop for coffee en route to the pool and dancing with her teammates during the meet helped her pull through.

“We do so much better when there’s positive energy,” said Eastin, who also won the breaststroke in a county-leading 1:03.23. “We were just ready to go, having a good time.”

Crean’s Lindsey Engel broke her 2013 meet records in the 50 (22.93) and 100 (49.66) freestyles en route to sharing the female swimmer of the meet award with Eastin.

“Any time I go under 50 or break 23, it’s a good day,” said Engel, who claimed her fourth swimmer of the meet award. “I’m excited to see what everyone is going to pull out at the end of the season.”

Engel and Eastin also teamed with Emily Eastin and Tianna Jorgenson to lower the Saints’ meet record in the 200 free relay with a sizzling 1:34.19. The time ranks second in county history only to JSerra’s Division 1-record 1:32.35 from last season.

Crean opened finals by breaking its meet record in the medley relay. Engel, Ella and Emily Eastin, and Rachel Taylor combined for a county-leading 1:45.25.

Emily Eastin finished a strong-second to Engel in the 50 (23.63) and won the butterfly (54.66). Both of the sophomore’s times were high school-bests.

“(It show) how tough they are,” Crean Lutheran coach Craig Brown said. “And how focused they are and what they can do when they’re tired and having a lot of fun. We just had a lot of fun today and they just went out and did it. … Just go out and compete.”

The University boys set meet records in the medley (1:34.05), 200 free (1:27.36) and 400 free (3:11.79) relays.

Swimmer of the meet Corey Okubo won the 200 IM (1:50.59) and butterfly (49.47) for the Trojans, and teammate Daniel Tran lowered his meet record in the 100 back (50.33).

University had four breaststrokers – Michael Schiffer (57.64), Chris Havton (57.90), Matt Wong (59.69) and Matt Yong (59.94) – break a minute in sweeping the top four spots.

“It’s unbelievable to have four guys under a minute this time of year,” University coach Tom Norton said.

Grant Shoults of Santa Margarita edged Darren Ward’s 1987 record in the 200 free by about a tenth of a second with a county-leading 1:39.21, and Tesoro’s Brandon Boval swept the 50 (county-leading 21.20) and 100 (46.75) freestyles.

Shoults sliced more than 5 1/2 seconds off his time from prelims.

“Watching records go down left and right,” Okubo said, “was pretty amazing. This a good practice for CIF.”

At the Mission Viejo Invitational:

Mission Viejo’s Alexandra Caplan (5:30.85) and Capistrano Valley’s Tarek Abdelghany (570.55) captured diving titles while Laguna Beach’s Erik Juliusson won the 200 IM (1:53.83) and butterfly (51.35) at the Marguerite Recreation Center.
