JSerra freshmen excel
JSerra freshmen swimmers Katie McLaughlin and Brittany Kahn set meet records Saturday to help highlight the Trinity League prelims at Santa Margarita.
McLaughlin scorched her 100-yard butterfly in 55.01 seconds to slice about two seconds off the meet record.
McLaughlin also earned the No. 1 seed in the 200 freestyle with a 1:49.89, which smashed the meet record by more than 31/2 seconds.
Kahn established a league standard in the 500 freestyle with a 4:55.67.
JSerra freshman Kaitlyn Albertoli sprinted to a season best in the 50 free (24.14) to qualify first. She also grabbed the top seed in the 100 free (51.83).
Mater Dei's Jiana Vargem blasted a county-leading 100 breaststroke with a 1:04.81. She also qualified first in the 200 individual medley (2:05.70).
In the boys prelims, Mater Dei's Dylan Payne took the county lead in the 100 breaststroke with a swift 58.88. The junior also qualified first in the 50 free (21.71).
The Trinity finals are Friday.
