EDISON
The 6-foot-3 junior guard scored 22 points with four 3-pointers in a victory over Claremont in the CIF-SS Division 2AA quarterfinals and scored 13 points with six rebounds and four steals in a win over Kaiser of Fontana in the semifinals. Edison coach Rich Boyce also praised Matthews’ contributions on defense. Matthews, who averages 19 points a game, regularly is assigned to cover the opposing team’s best offensive player.
