The senior linebacker collected six tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack and recovered a fumble to help the Lions defeat state No.13-ranked St. Bonaventure of Ventura, 42-28. Matthews was part of a defense that sacked USC commit quarterback Ricky Town five times and limited the senior to 21 of 45 passing (47 percent). Matthews also rushed for 68 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown run. He is a member of the USA junior rugby team.
