Outlook: If their first two meetings were any indication of how the regional final will play out, Mater Dei-Chaminade III will be nothing short of epic. The Monarchs have taken leads into the fourth quarter of both previous meetings with the Eagles, only to have Chaminade storm back late to win the first two showdowns by one point. Mater Dei has not won a state title since 2012, and Andee and Bianca Velasco are the only members of that team still on the roster. For Mater Dei, it comes down to playing a complete, 32-minute game. If Coach Kevin Kiernan’s squad can be consistent from start to finish, the Monarchs will be venturing north to Berkeley next week for the state final.
