Jakeishya Le was there at the beginning, so its only fitting that she has helped put the Monarchs verge of achieving an historic level of success.

On Thursday Le finished statistically the best week of her four-year varsity golf career with her lowest nine-hole score, helping the No. 1 Monarchs extend their record winning streak to 45 consecutive matches.

She posted a 4-under-par 31 at Willowick Golf Course during Mater Dei’s 196-241 Trinity League victory against Rosary.

The Monarchs (11-0, 7-0)  will make up a match with Rosary during the first round of the league finals tournament on Wednesday. A triumph would complete a school-record third consecutive perfect season for the Monarchs. Orange Lutheran handed Mater Dei its last loss on Sept. 6, 2011.

“It is a testament to how hard the girls work and how seriously they take this. We have been blessed to have girls that are willing to buy into our (training) regimen,” said Mater Dei coach Derek Uyesaka, who has been on the coaching staff for all 45 victories. “To carry on the tradition that we do every year … you can’t do it without great student/athletes. We are very blessed to get good kids every year.”

None on the team now, though, are doing better than Le. Just three days ago, she posted the lowest 18-hole round of her career, a 68 at the Ayala Fall Classic, making her 10 under for the week.

She medaled for the seventh time this season on Thursday, and her 36.5 nine-hole scoring average leads the team.

“I have been staying really calm out there, and all of my putts have been going in. That is helpful,” she said.

Le said she hasn’t changed a thing since the beginning of the season, but Uyesaka has noticed a difference in her lately. It seems like she is enjoying herself more, he said.

“You could say that is because she is playing the best golf of her life,” Uyesaka said. “But I think she is just going into each round saying, ‘I am just going to go out and have fun today.’ And guess what? She posts another low score. It’s all her mindset.”
