Outlook: This game features two players who were named winners Thursday of the Wooden Award, Stanley Johnson of Mater Dei and Elijah Stewart of Westchester. Top-seeded Mater Dei beat St. Augustine of San Diego, 65-38, in the first round and Etiwanda, 67-64, in double overtime in the semifinals. Seventh-seeded Westchester defeated No. 2 seed J.W. North of Riverside, 79-61, in the first round and No. 3 Redondo Union of Redondo Beach, 76-67, in the semifinals. The winner plays the Northern California champion in the CIF State championship game on March 29 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland plays Capital Christian of Sacramento in the Northern California final today. Mater Dei has 14 Southern California Regionals championships, including the past three years. Westchester has six titles. The Comets’ most recent regional final win was in 2010 when they beat Mater Dei in the Division 1 game.
