TOP BOYS ATHLETES

Mason Coppi, Dana Hills: He was a third-team All-American in cross country. Combined with fellow senior Jake Ogden, Dana Hills has an outstanding distance medley relay team.

Jett Gordon, Marina: The senior matched the winning mark of 15 feet, 9 inches in the pole vault at last year’s CIF State Championships, but he lost on total jumps. After battling a shoulder injury last year, he hopes to be in position to conquer the 17-foot mark, which has been done by only two vaulters in county history.

Sean Lee, Trabuco Hills: The sophomore high jump phenom is literally a fraction of an inch away from history. Lee has already cleared a school record 7 feet,1/4 inch this year. The state sophomore record is 7-1.

Bronson Osborn, Esperanza: The junior is a threat to out-throw the tape measure. Osborn set an Orange County record with a mark of 70 feet in the shot put at the Corona Relays on Feb. 27. The previous best mark of 69-61/2 was set by Capistrano Valley’s Brian Blutreich in 1985.

Austin Tamagno, Brea Olinda: Is there anything left for the defending state champion in the 1,600 meters to accomplish? The senior repeated as the state Division 3 champion in cross country. The Oregon signee would like to go out as the champion he has established himself to be.
