DANA POINT – Marina used the running game to beat Dana Hills, 34-14, Friday at Dana Hills High.

Blaine Riederich was too much for the Dolphins defense to handle. The junior ran for 200 yards on 18 carries. Marina ran for 260 yards as a team.

Riederich wasted no time, scoring on an 83-yard run on Marina’s second play from scrimmage. He ran 2 yards for a touchdown on the ensuing possession to give the Vikings a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.

The ground-and-pound game plan was clear for the Vikings, who did not attempt a pass until late in the first quarter.

Marina found the end zone threw the air late in the second quarter. Ian Green threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Noah Holmes to give the Vikings a 21-0 lead at halftime.

Green completed 6 of 18 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Both of his touchdown passes were to Holmes, who had 75 yards on just three catches.

The Dolphins struggled to put drives together offensively. Junior quarterback Corey Cisowski threw for 141 yards and completed 8 of his 22 attempts. He threw four interceptions.

Marina safety Rand Keidel intercepted a Cisowski pass to give the Vikings a commanding 34-0 lead in the fourth quarter.

Dana Hills scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first came on an 80-yard run by Jake Baldiviez, who carried 14 times for 120 yards.

With 49 seconds remaining, Cisowski rolled to his right and found Ryder Lynch in the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown.

Marina (1-0) will host Ocean View next Friday. Ocean View was Marina’s lone victory in 2015. Dana Hills (0-1) will play Sunny Hills at Buena Park High.
