After Santa Margarita cruised through Trinity League team play with a perfect 10-0 mark, the Eagles individuals continued to dominate Thursday afternoon in the league championships.
Santa Margarita sophomore Alejandro Serrano walked away with the singles title after knocking off top-seeded Ryan Brown (St. John Bosco) in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
On the doubles side, seniors Connor Ambrose and Rhett Andrews outlasted Mater Dei’s Matthew Lindsey and Daniel Aguirre, 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-4.
Ambrose and Andrews also knocked off the league’s top seed in the final.
Santa Margarita (21-2) will begin its defense of the CIF-SS Division 2 crown when playoffs begin next week.
In the North Hills League Finals:
The top seeds in both the singles and doubles bracket prevailed in the North Hills League. Yorba Linda’s Ryan Yang defeated teammate Isaiah Seo, 6-3, 6-3, for the singles crown, and the Lyndon Bui–Scott Nguyen (Canyon) tandem eased past Kyle Yee and Ryan Lowery (Yorba Linda), 6-3, 6-1, for the doubles triumph.
In the Crestview League Finals:
Villa Park’s Ty Edwards prevailed on the singles side with a 6-3, 6-3 win over El Dorado’s Mark Penner. Markus Doehler and Sam Brown (Foothill) defeated top-seeded William Stepanski and Quentin Gonzalez (Villa Park), 6-2, 6-3, to win the doubles title.
In the Pacific Coast League Finals:
The county’s top two ranked teams reaffirmed their status as the area’s clear-cut powers in the league’s individual championships at Beckman High.
Corona del Mar senior Bjorn Hoffmann topped teammate Pedro Fernandez Del Valle to win the coveted singles crown in a star-studded bracket.
On the doubles side, JT Joens and Tommy Wang defeated Hudson Graf and Patryk Kozlowski, 8-6, in an all-University final.
The Trojans accounted for all four of the teams in the doubles semifinals. Josh Piatos and Hans Hwang beat teammates Reini Igna and Michael Rudin, 8-1, in the third place match.
